Car stolen in Rushden house robbery by lock-snapping burglary gang

Residents have been warned of lock-snapping burglars after three people entered a home in Trefoil Close, Rushden and stole a car by snapping the lock on the house’s side door.

The incident, which took place between 12.47am and 1.16am, on Saturday, December 20, saw three people in a dark coloured Volkswagen Golf arrive in the street, and force entry to a house by snapping the lock on the side door to the house.

Police have warned residents the lock snap method of entry to the home is a common technique used by burglars, who gain entry by compromising the internal mechanisms.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "Please be aware that the snapping of locks on doors is now a common burglary technique that exposes the internal mechanism which can then be manipulated to gain entry.

"This is often used on uPVC, Composite and Aluminium doors that are fitted with standard euro locks.”

After the intruders found the car keys to the householders white 2023 Volkswagen Golf, they stole the car and drove it to Melchbourne in Bedfordshire. There, the vehicle's tracking device was removed. Police recommend people upgrade the home’s Standard Euro Lock to ones that meets recognised security standards which are designed with a sacrificial Section which snaps off when breached, leaving the internal mechanism intact.

Those with information or CCTV footage of the incident in Trefoil Close, Rushden which could help the ongoing investigation are asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting the Crime Ref. No. 25000742258.
