A mum who was involved in a near head-on collision has appealed for help to track down a woman who came to her aid when her car swerved into a ditch.

Anna'Maria Johnson, was driving her black Nissan Qashqai on Friday, November 27, at about 11am from Hinwick to Harrold when she came round a bend to find a car on her side of the road.

Taking avoiding action she swerved to avoid a head-on collision but ended up in a ditch, hitting some trees and a sign post before coming to a stop in Dungee Road.

She said:"I was just five minutes from home on my way to my daughter's house. I came round the corner and there was a car on the wrong side of the road.

"I swerved to avoid them and ended up in the ditch. The other car didn't stop. I sat in the car and out of all the cars that went by only two people stopped.

"One was Andrew, who spoke to my daughter, and the other was a lady. I'm trying to find out who this lady is so that I can thank her personally for all her help. She is a trained first aider and works near by. I really hope someone who knows her can put her in touch with me."

Anna'Maria, 56, thinks that the woman, who was white, had a local accent, had her ear pierced twice in one ear, shoulder-length light-coloured hair and might be called Teresa.

Anna'Maria said: "It was daytime and a few people drove past. I phoned 999 and the man who stopped took over talking to them.

"The lady sat in the back of my car and held my head still until the ambulance crew arrived. They couldn't take me out because of my medical problems. They didn't want to move me. A trauma doctor came by helicopter to assess me and then the fire service had to cut the roof off my car.

"They kept me informed the whole time and they were brilliant. I don't know where they were from but I would like to know."

Anna'Maria was taken to Northampton General Hospital and was discharged later the same day. She is now recovering at home with help from son James and daughter-in-law Holly, who live in nearby Podington, and daughter Shannon, who lives in Bedford.

The grandmother-of-seven said: "I'm feeling a bit sore and have bruises. I would like to thank the lady. She was very comforting. She said she uses the road a lot and knows how dangerous it is.

"I would also like to thank the amazing ambulance crew, you guys were awesome. Also a huge thank you to the brilliant fire brigade team who extracted me from my car. The helicopter and trauma doctor and the police. Also all the doctors and nurses that took care of me at Northampton hospital. You were all absolutely amazing. I can't thank you all enough."

The accident happened on Friday, November 27, at about 11am, on the Dungee Road between Hinwick and Harrold.
