Bungling road gang run over fresh repairs leaving site of Kettering kerb damaged
Road maintenance contractors who completed a long-awaited road repair in Kettering have been ordered to return to mend the fix after they ran over their own handiwork in their own truck.
Residents were pleased on Tuesday (April 28) that the uneven surface and damaged kerbs at the corner of Shakespeare Road and Reservoir Road were being repaired and replaced.
‘Footpath closed' signs were placed around the scene to allow the contractors working on behalf of North Northamptonshire Council to safely work.
Everything was going smoothly with the team finishing the job. Warning signs were folded up and collected at 10.08am, cones removed and barriers dismantled a minute later, but at 10.10am the lorry carrying the street furniture pulled up and promptly cut the freshly laid asphalt.

A local householder said: “This footpath was badly damaged and quickly repaired. Barely 10 minutes later a vehicle cut the corner and damaged it again.
"I checked my cameras and they ran over it with their own vehicle. A huge HGV stopped on the junction for them to load up the street furniture and they damaged their own repair.”
A spokesman for North Northants Council said: “We are aware of concerns relating to footway works carried out on 28 April at the corner of Shakespeare Road and Reservoir Road, Kettering.
“Following these concerns, officers attended the site to assess the condition of the footway and ensure it was safe for public use. The inspection identified damage to a section of the recently completed repair.
“Arrangements have been made for the work to be redone at no cost to the council. When this takes place, the full affected area, including any surrounding surface deterioration, will be addressed to ensure a proper and lasting repair.
“The follow-up works will be monitored to make sure the footway is reinstated to the required standard. We apologise for the inconvenience caused and will ensure the issue is resolved as soon as possible.”
