'Brilliant' Pride in Place Corby team ready for £20m allocation across Kingswood, Exeter, Hazel Leys and Beanfield estates
The team of residents, volunteers and community representatives who will help shape plans for a £20m scheme to improve the heart of the Corby community have been revealed.
Pride in Place Corby is an initiative to spend £20m of government money across Corby’s Kingswood, Exeter, Hazel Leys and Beanfield estates.
The ten-year scheme is targeted at improving lives for people living on those estates, which have been historically neglected.
Under the chairmanship of Kingswood Secondary Academy teacher Alex Bonner, a board of local people will help spend the cash in the right places.

Ms Bonner said: “The whole point point of this project is that it’s not for the community, it’s not done to our community, it’s done with our community.
“We have been awarded £2m for the next 10 years, a total of £20m, to help regenerate and bring our communities together and be proud.
“It’s about community engagement. It’s about getting involved where they want the money to go to and it’s giving our community a voice.
“It’s about what they need and what they want - what is going to be sustainable for the next 10 years.”

Members of the board are Denis Muit, Faye Harris (Hope Church), Cullen O’Neill, Jade McGrath, NNC’s Cllr Helen Campbell, Alex Locke, Lynn Johnson, Alex Bonner (chair), Sgt Greg McClean (Northants Police), Corby MP Lee Barron, Katie Pike and Andrew McMichael.
Residents attending the free family funday launch event at Kingswood Secondary Academy on Saturday were asked to fill in questionnaires to share their ideas.
Ms Bonner added: “The three main areas we’re looking at are health, education and community and they all go hand in hand. It’s all about that idea as this project progresses, people’s needs will then change.
“I’m so excited for this - I’ve got a brilliant 12 people on our board, we will meet and discuss our findings.”
