A teenager is fighting for their life in hospital after a serious assault in Kettering last night.

The incident took place in Wellington Street close to the junction with Princes Street at around 10.45pm and police have cordoned off an area to allow for searches.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Police in Kettering are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Wellington Street, yesterday evening, Saturday, February 13.

"The incident happened at about 10.45pm and the 19-year-old victim remains in a critical condition in hospital."

Officers conducted a finger-tip line search this morning as detectives conducted door-to-door enquires.

Detective Inspector Mark Hopkinson from Northamptonshire Police urged witnesses to come forward.

He said: "An investigation is underway and a scene guard remains in place this morning, Sunday, February 14, while officers conduct a search of the area and house to house enquiries.

"I would ask anyone who saw or heard anything in the area around the time of the assault to contact the police.

"We would also like to hear from anyone who lives in Wellington Street or the nearby area who has CCTV or 'Ring Doorbell'. Also, if you were driving in the area around that time, and have dash-cam, then please contact us."
