A resident of a house in Wellingborough who heard a loud noise in the night only discovered they had been broken into the following morning.

The back door of their home in Whitworth Road, Wellingborough, had been broken into and their home burgled with the door left open after they left.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "Police officers are appealing for witnesses after a residential burglary in Whitworth Road, Wellingborough.

"The occupant heard a loud noise at about 11.30pm on Wednesday, January 20, but it wasn’t until they woke up at about 8.30am the following morning that they discovered the rear door open and the property had been broken into.

"Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area between the stated times."
