Sywell Country Park is advising people not to let their pet pooches swim in the reservoir, where they are usually more than welcome to paddle.

Hide AdBlue-green algae is currently present in the body of water and is potentially harmful for dogs.
The country park issued a statement on its Facebook page, which says: “Please be aware that blue green algae is present in the water at Sywell Country Park.
“It is advisable not to allow your dog in the water.”
The bacteria can produce harmful toxins, which can be dangerous for a dog’s liver functions.
Swimming or drinking the water can leave dogs with serious health problems and can even be fatal, so it is better not to risk our four-legged friends coming into contact with the algae.
