Bid to improve skatepark in Higham Ferrers
Higham Ferrers Town Council is looking for a contractor to take on works to renovate and remodel the skatepark in Saffron Road Recreation Ground, hoping to make improvements to the ‘very popular and much used facility’.
After the skateboard park was built and commissioned in 2015 the banking on the end of the ramps nearest the football pitch in Saffron Road has been repaired over the years, but a decision has now to seek a contractor to supply all materials, construct, manage and remodel the skatepark.
A document from Higham Ferrers Town Council reads: “The repairs have included importation of soil to address erosion, placement of grass matting and grass seeding to reduce the level of bank erosion, use of bonded mulch on the bank to provide a wear surface.
“Despite these measures this end of the skateboard park now requires remodelling to improve its overall design to help provide some longevity against the constant wear and tear.

“The steep banking is now eroding rapidly and the rubber mulch is in a very poor condition, to the extent where it is becoming a trip hazard and a safety issue.”
Works are being sought to increase the concrete landing area by one metre in length, and to build out of the banking with a plateau also one metre in length with a less steep slope to the ground level.
A consultation took place in August 2025 and the design for the remodelling of the landing area was agreed. The town council is now looking for a contractor to bring the design to life.
Tenders are to be sent to Higham Ferrers Town Council either via email at [email protected], or submitted in writing in a sealed marked envelope and sent to the Proper Officer at the town hall in Market Square before the closing date of November 6.
