Ava, Sophie, Haiden and Anastasia win council’s festive art competition showcasing their favourite place in north Northamptonshire

These school pupils have picked up a prize for their efforts in North Northamptonshire Council’s art competition, where each won vouchers for their artwork showing their favourite places in north Northamptonshire.

Ava from Thrapston took home the top prize of a £50 voucher and a framed print of her entry for her colourful, festive depiction of the Nine Arches Bridge.

The winner in the Reception to Year 2 category was Sophie from Oundle for her drawing of a snowy Barnwell Country Park, and in the Year 3 to Year 6 category Haiden for his festive drawing of Croyland Park in Wellingborough.

Anastasia from Wellingborough won in the Year 7 to Year 11 category for her drawing of the Christmas tree adorning Wellingborough High Street.

Cllr Elizabeth Wright, executive member for children, families and education, at North Northamptonshire Council (NNC), said: “We had so many wonderful, and varied, entries which really showed how creative young people in North Northamptonshire are.

"Picking the winners was very challenging, but huge congratulations to Ava, Sophie, Haiden and Anastasia. I’d like to thank everyone who entered the competition and shared their festive scenes with us. It definitely helped us get in the Christmas spirit.”

The competition launched in November was open to people aged between four and 16-years-old, with judges praising the ‘high standard’ of entries and said that ‘choosing the best designs proved a very difficult task.’

Council leader Cllr Martin Griffiths said: “We loved seeing the designs featuring festive scenes from some of the unique and interesting places around North Northamptonshire, and it shows that young people have a lot of pride in where they live.
