Armed police called after reports of a gun at Wellingborough park

Armed police were deployed after a witness reported seeing a gun at a park in Wellingborough.

Officers were called out on Easter Monday to an incident at Eastfield Park, just off Gold Street.

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "We were called yesterday at about 2pm after reports of an altercation in Eastfield Park in which a witness reported seeing a gun."

Armed officers were deployed but the spokesman said what was believed to be a gun turned out to be a stick.

The police helicopter was also seen hovering over the Hemmingwell estate at the time.

The spokesman added that two men aged 54 and 55 were arrested for public order offences and have been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
