Annual aluminium drinks can collection campaign Save Can Jan underway in Kettering

The second annual aluminium drinks can collection campaign ‘Save Can Jan’ has begun in Kettering.

Volunteer litter pickers Kettering Wombles have joined forces once again with Kettering Green Party members to collect empty aluminium cans. The crushed cans will then be given to a charity raising funds for helipads for hospitals in the region.

Cllr Ben Williams – a Kettering town and unitary councillor – has been helping to co-ordinate the appeal.

He said: “We are very happy to be doing Save Can Jan again this year after collecting 19 bags last year.

“It’s an easy way to save lives while raising awareness of sustainable recycling as well as being mindful of our waste production.”

Throughout January, residents are being challenged to save as many of drinking cans as possible.

The cans can be dropped off at two collection points in the town, after which they will be passed on to the Helipads for Hospitals charity.

Cllr Williams added: “If you’d like to get involved, simply start saving your cans – especially over new year celebrations – and remember to pre-crush them to make drop off and collection easier.

”Let’s make this an even bigger collection than last year and support a great cause."

Collection points are at 11 Lyveden Place, Kettering, NN16 0LF (please put in the blue bins in the front garden) or Tesco Extra off Pytchley Road in a cage near the front entrance.
