Anglian Water shares tips to Northamptonshire residents on saving water during heatwave
Anglian Water has shared a handful of tips and easy ways to use less water as temperatures soar across the UK.
Temperatures across Northamptonshire have exceeded 30 degrees over the bank holiday, meaning more pressure is being put on the water network.
While a hosepipe ban is not currently in effect, Anglian Water has reiterated that they use around five times more water than a watering can, and that reusing rain water to attend to lawns or plants can make a big difference, helping put less pressure on the local network.
A spokesman for Anglian Water said: “When the weather hots up, the demand for water goes up too, putting extra pressure on our network. As you’d expect we’ve already seen a big increase in the amount of water being used over the bank holiday.

“With it staying warmer for the rest of the week into next weekend, by making changes to use less water you can help make sure you and your community have enough water all summer long.
"People using more water in hot weather can lower water pressure, or cause interruptions to your supply, making it harder to get water to you as fast as you need it.
“Problems can be more common as temperatures rise because it dries out the ground, shifting our water pipes.”
Other tips include holding off washing cars, reusing water where possible, filling a jug of water and putting it in the fridge instead of constantly using taps for drinks, and making sure the kettle is full the night before, so as to avoid using water at peak times.
Anglian Water also recommends avoiding taking a bath or shower during the peak times of 7am through 9am and 4pm through 7pm, when more people are using water at home.
