A six-year-old boy has raised £1,500 for the NHS - after completing a half-marathon by running 950 laps of his back garden in Barton Seagrave.

Oscar Overson, who usually completes the junior park run at Wicksteed Park, decided to make the most of his lockdown exercise after seeing a story about an athlete who ran a marathon at home to raise money.

After terrible weather postponed his planned finish, the Barton Seagrave Primary School pupil finished the last lap of the 22m track to the sound of a cheering 'crowd' on Sunday (April 19).

Proud mum Vikki, 41, said: "We left him 25 laps to do so we could celebrate at the finishing line.

"Some friends came to walk past and there was lots of clapping and cheering from over the fence.

"Every morning he woke up and he just wanted to do some more laps."

At the time of publication Oscar's brilliant effort had raised £1,490 online.

The money will be split between Kettering General Hospital and the national NHS charity in response to coronavirus to help frontline staff.

Vikki added: "He is very, very happy that he has raised so much money."
