6. The dialect of residents changes throughout the county
Whereas other counties with a united accent the different boroughs of Northamptonshire all have their own accents which have been shaped over the years. Corby is known to have a more Scottish influence due to the large migration of Scottish who moved for the Steel Works.
7. Heads of Guy Fawkes’ followers were put on display in Northampton
Some of the men who unsuccessfully tried to assassinate King James I were Robert Catesby and Thomas Percy. They were shot in a gunfight and buried in Northampton. However the Earl of Northampton ordered their bodies to be exhumed and their heads put on display. A third conspirator died, Francis Tresham, whilst in police custody and although he protested his innocence his head was placed alongside the others.
