A 61-year-old pedestrian was rushed to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries following a collision involving an HGV in Northampton on Wednesday morning.

Police closed part of the A428 Bedford Road near the Holiday Inn hotel following the crash just before 6am today.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "The pedestrian was taken to University Hospital Coventry with serious injuries although, thankfully, they are not considered to be life-threatening."

University Hospital is the region's major trauma centre.

Northamtponshire's Serious Collision Unit are appealing for witnesses to the crash which involved a white Mercedes HGV.

The spokesman added: "The pedestrian was walking across the road near the Holiday Inn when he was in collision with a white Mercedes HGV.

"If anyone saw the incident or may have dashcam footage available which could help our investigations, please call the Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615."
