Pair rescued after vehicle gets stuck in flood water in East Northants village

Firefighters helped rescue a man and a woman after their vehicle became stranded in flood water.

Crews from Oundle, Raunds and the specialist water rescue team from Wellingborough attended the incident in Aldwincle yesterday (Monday).

A spokesman for Northants Fire and Rescue Service said: "This happened in Thorpe Road, Aldwincle, yesterday at about 3.20pm when a Mitsubishi Lancer got stuck in flood water.

"Inside were a man and a woman.

"They were rescued by the fire service who pulled them out using a Unimog."

A unimog is a truck which can be used in situations like this due to its off-road capabilities.

A tweet from Northants Fire following the rescue said: "Casualties left on safe ground awaiting car recovery."
