Console Corner: Landmark week for the PS4

It has been a landmark week for Sony’s Playstation 4 after the console was named ‘Gadget of the Year’ at the 2014 T3 awards.

The console, which is now in more than 10 million homes worldwide, also grabbed the gaming gong at the tech version of the Oscars while Sony was drafted into the Hall of Fame.

The company will be hoping to keep riding the crest of a wave after it finally released the much-heralded and talked about Driveclub yesterday (Friday).

The Evolution Studios racing sim allows PS4 players to make clubs of up to six players and complete challenges together to earn fame. Every team member’s action will contribute to the club’s overall success. The game’s tracks and environments are inspired by real places in diverse regions across the globe namely Norway and Scotland.

Videos look stunning and it will also feature dynamic weather such as rain and snow, and a day-night cycle which you can set yourself – meaning during the course of a race you can have a whole range of weather or change in time of day at set times/rates.

Evolution has announced there will also be a DLC Season Pass which will introduce 11 new courses, 23 new events, and a new car each month until June next year. There will also be some free content.

The pressure is on Driveclub already, though, as delays have put its release back almost a year after the game was originally slated as a console launch title back in November 2013.

Another game out this week is Alien: Isolation – a first-person survival horror stealth game developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega.

Set in 2137, 15 years after the events of Alien and 42 years prior to Aliens, the game follows Amanda, who is investigating the disappearance of her mother Ellen Ripley.

Alien: Isolation was released on all platforms on Tuesday.
