WI members from across Northamptonshire enjoyed the Centenary AGM in the Royal Albert Hall in the prescence of HM The Queen...while others watched it on the big screen at Sixfields Cinema.

The AGM was also attended by HRH The Princess Royal and HRH The Countess of Wessex as the the national anthem and Jerusalem were sung and the Centenary Baton was handed over.

A spokeswoman for Northamptonshire WI said: “The Queen was escorted off the stage by Northamptonshire’s very own Diana Birch (member of Yelvertoft WI – and a national vice chair) where Her Majesty made the first cut to the Centenary Cake.

“For those not at the Royal Albert Hall, the screening of the whole event at Cineworld (Sixfields) was a great success – the live coverage was excellent, very clear and with good sound. Members sang Jerusalem, the National Anthem and even some managed the Welsh Anthem as well.

“It was so good that they all felt that they were there in the Albert Hall but, possibly, with a better view of the proceedings!

“As members left they were given a piece of fruit cake baked by Carolyn Stone (Hunsbury Hill WI) and Tracey Hockaday (Great Doddington WI). All members agreed it had been a lovely day and how much they had enjoyed it.”
