A new scheme is to be launched across Northamptonshire providing free and impartial one-to-one information sessions about pensions.

The Central and East Northamptonshire Citizens Advice Bureau is responsible for delivering the Government’s Pension Wise scheme across the county, providing guidance to allow pensioners and those approaching retirement to make informed decisions about their finances.

Martin Lord, chief executive of Central and East Northamptonshire, said: “Pensions can be a confusing topic and Pension Wise appointments will help people to make sense of their pension choices.

“We’ll be delivering Pension Wise appointments from our Northampton base in Mercers Row and a wide range of sites across the region, giving easy access to Pension Wise.”

The new scheme is aimed at those aged 55 or over and those approaching retirement, as well as people with a defined contribution pension and those thinking of accessing their pension in the next six months.

Appointments will last 45 minutes for face to face meetings, they are also available over the telephone from the Pensions Advisory Service.

As of April 6 this year the Government has introduced greater freedoms allowing people to have the choice of taking a lump sum, an annuity or both.

It is hoped that the introduction of this scheme will help to ease any confusion caused by the new guidelines.
