Lucy sheds her locks for charity

Lucy Irons, 15, from Stanwick, had her head shaved at The Globe pub last Saturday, December 17, and has so-far raised more than £800 for Beat, the UK’s leading charity for eating disorders.

Lucy’s dad, Kevin Irons, said: “Lucy has suffered from Anorexia Nervosa for a couple of years.

“The illness has a high mortality rate and can affect males and females of all ages, however as with many illnesses early recognition and intervention is vital for a better chance of a positive outcome.”

“Lucy has spent four months in a psychiatric hospital this year, and has attended endless appointments and sessions with specialist eating disorder professionals.

“Lucy is ‘in recovery’ and has still a way to go, but from being bedridden, then restricted to a wheelchair, to now coaching and resuming her gymnastics she is a great role model.

“Her view is that if she can help one person, then it has all been worth the sacrifice.”

Lucy had set herself a fundraising target of £500 but smashed that tally.

Mr Irons added: “Lucy would like to express her thanks to everyone who has donated and to Carina Henderson who gave up her time to do the shave.”
