Law hopes Poppies can make it 'third time lucky'
Marcus Law is hoping Kettering Town can make it 'third time lucky' and make it through to the first round proper of this season's Emirates FA Cup.
The Poppies moved a step closer to making that a reality as they beat Evo-Stik League Premier Division side Hednesford Town 4-0 at Latimer Park to book a place in tomorrow’s (Monday) fourth qualifying round draw.
Brett Solkhon scored a unique hat-trick with all three coming from the penalty spot while substitute Andrea Borg rounded things off with his first goal for the club.
The Poppies will now line up alongside the Vanarama National League sides in the next stage and Law is hoping tomorrow’s draw will be kind to his side.
“We just want it to be third time lucky,” he said.
“It is the third year in a row we have reached this stage of the competition and we would like to go one better this time.
“We lost to Solihull Moors the first time, then Nantwich Town last year and if you replayed that replay again and again we would probably win every time.
“So we want to go that stage further this time. We will need a bit of help from the FA Cup Gods when the draw is made.
“If we can get one at home then that would be great but we will certainly give it our best shot whoever we are drawn against.”
Law felt the encounter with the Pitmen was “a strange game” as the Poppies were helped by those three spot-kicks.
But he insists there was no doubt about any of the decisions.
“I thought it was a strange game,” the Kettering boss added.
“There wasn’t a great deal going on, we were fairly comfortable throughout and I thought we fully deserved what we came out of it with.
“People will talk about us not scoring goals from open play but we are putting defenders into uncomfortable positions where they have to make decisions.
“All three penalties were penalties and, truth be told, we should have had a fourth one as well.
“And we are very fortunate to have a gentleman (Solkhon) who is full of confidence when it comes to scoring a penalty at the moment.”
