Kettering trampolinist aiming high after British title success

Fifteen-year-old Brodie Hove-Coleman, from Northamptonshire Trampoline Gymnastics Academy, claimed top spot at the British Championships in Birmingham on Sunday.

Brodie’s success in the hotly-contested Elite Women’s age 15 to 16 trampoline discipline was her third British title.

She said: “I’ve got great competition so it’s always good to win.

“I’m happy with my performance. I’ve put in a lot of hard work and it’s great it has paid off.

“My coach is very understanding and has helped me prepare so well, physically and mentally.

“My next aim is hopefully to qualify for the Worlds in Russia this November and try and make it four appearances there.”

The major event saw more than 500 participants from 80 clubs – including 12 from across the Midlands – take part in the two-day gymnastics spectacular with youngsters travelling from across the UK to compete.

The ages of the gymnasts taking part ranged from just nine to 32-year-old former world number one Kat Driscoll.

Competitors also included Team GB’s Olympic silver medallist Bryony Page who was the first British gymnast to win an Olympic medal, claiming silver at Rio 2016.

Jane Allen, chief executive of British Gymnastics, said: “I am thrilled to see so many talented gymnastics performing at such a high-level at the Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini Trampoline British Championships in Birmingham.

“It is great to see so many of the established stars taking part and exciting to see the depth of young talent coming through.

“The sport has a very bright future and Birmingham has once again staged an outstanding event.”

More than 3,000 people attended the event, making it the most successful British Championships for the past five years.

The next major British Gymnastics event is the Gymnastics World Cup in Birmingham on Saturday, March 23, 2019 where the best nations in the world will take part.
