Kettering Council launches scheme to help residents save on energy bills

Many people are paying too much for their gas and electricity and haven’t changed suppliers in years, if at all.

The scheme, which will be managed by independent broker iChoosr, harnesses the power of collective purchasing by bringing together local people who are interested in switching suppliers for either their gas, electricity or both.

The more people that join the collective scheme, the better a deal everybody gets.

Cllr Ian Jelley, Kettering Council’s portfolio holder for environment, said: “We welcome this scheme in Kettering borough.

“I would like to encourage as many residents as possible, as well as those working in the borough, to take advantage and benefit from this energy switch.

“We are always working with local partners and organisations to find the best cost effective solutions for borough households.”

Kettering Council has arranged two drop in sessions in order to help make it as easy as possible to join the scheme.

If you visit their Bowling Green Road offices with your recent energy bill, their ‘Energy Champions’ will help you through the process and offer advice.

Sessions are being held from 10am to 3pm on September 19 and October 3.

The council iwll also be out and about at various local community events and will be holding further drop-ins to aid the switching process in late October/early November.

Rochelle Mathieson, head of commercial development at Kettering Council, said: “Our hassle free, no obligation switching scheme is ideal if you’ve never switched energy suppliers, not switched for a number of years, or simply want to check you’ve got a good deal.

“The more people that participate in Switch2Save, the more likely people will be able to achieve cheaper energy prices.”

How Switch2Save works:

1. Register your interest. You will need your annual energy statement or latest energy bills, information on your current tariff and energy consumption, your preferred method of payment and your contact details. It is free to register.

2. Energy auction, held on Tuesday, October 9. At the end of the registration period an auction will be held with energy suppliers. The energy supplier who offers the cheapest tariff in the auction will be able to put forward this tariff recommended as the new energy supplier to those who have registered.

3. Receive an offer from Monday, October 22. Each person will receive a personal quote outlining the potential savings and have the option to switch or remain with your existing provider. There is no obligation to switch suppliers after you have registered. If you do not like the offer you can decline it. Those who register for the scheme will have until November 27 to accept their energy offers.

You do not need to be a resident of Kettering borough to take advantage of the scheme.

All non-residents can benefit from the scheme by registering by October 8.
