The Needle & Awl Wacky Warehouse in Northampton Road, Rushden, is offering free entry for one day only after carrying out research which found nearly one in five (17 per cent) parents said their child preferred watching television or using an iPad to playing and having adventures.

The research also showed nearly a quarter of parents (24 per cent) said their children preferred playing with computer games to playing creatively as a family.

A spokesman for the Needle & Awl said: “We know that playtime is an important part of a child’s development, helping to build their social, cognitive, physical and emotional skills.

“This is why we’re offering a free day of play here at the Needle & Awl.

“We want to help children get creative and energetic by sliding, running, climbing and jumping to their heart’s content – and all for free.”

Anyone wanting to claim free entry to the National Play Date can visit their nearest Wacky on Monday, although people are advised to get there early as it will be first come, first served.
