A total of 282 households are now paying less for their gas and/or electricity because they switched suppliers earlier this year.

99 per cent of those who registered for ‘Switch Save Smile,’ a collective switching scheme run by ENC and iChoosr, were offered a better deal, with average savings per household of more than £350.

Energy companies SSE, E.ON and Ovo won the auction, putting forward the cheapest energy tariffs.

Rob from Higham Ferrers saved £572 and said: “We’re getting married this month, so this easy way to save couldn’t have come at a better time.

“All we needed to do was fill in the form with our gas and electricity statements to hand, then sit back and wait.

“Switching has been absolutely pain-free and we’d recommend it to anyone.”

Karen Pell, interim environmental protection manager at the council, said: “I hope everyone who switched is pleased with their savings and found the process as hassle-free as Rob.

“The majority of residents saved at least £100 and a few have pocketed over £1,000.

“Those of you that switched in the first auction, remember to look out for the next winter round when it will be time to think about switching again.

“For those who missed out this time, don’t worry, we’re offering this great opportunity to you again.

“If you know someone who didn’t switch, why not let them know they’ve got a second chance or even give them a hand to register?

“We want all your neighbours, friends and family to benefit from the scheme, so please help to put a smile on their face.”
