Get a slice of the action at Kettering Christmas lights switch-on

A two-and-a-half foot Christmas tree cake complete with edible presents has been donated to hospital fundraisers.

The cake, which took three days to make and is covered in 5kg of green icing, was presented as part of the grand opening of a new shop in Kettering, Oak Furniture Land.

It was carefully handed over to fundraisers from Kettering General Hospital who will be selling slices of the sponge cake at Kettering’s Christmas lights switch-on tonight (Thursday, November 30).

Maxine Andrews, fundraiser for Kettering General Hospital Charity Fund, said: “The Christmas tree cake really is a wonderful gesture to support our Christmas fundraising and we would like to thank everyone at the new Oak Furniture Land store for their kind and generous donation.

“We are running a stall at this year’s big switch-on of Kettering’s Christmas lights on November 30 and will be selling slices of the cake on our stall to help raise valuable funds.

The grand opening was attended by the mayor of Kettering, Cllr Scott Edwards.

Kerry Beckett, store manager at Oak Furniture Land Kettering, said: “We are delighted that the mayor of Kettering opened our new showroom and welcomed customers through the door.

“It’s a pleasure to support and celebrate the work that the Kettering General Hospital Charity Fund does in the local area.

“This is our first showroom in Kettering, and we’ve created seven new local jobs.

The mayor of Kettering, Scott Edwards, said: “This new Oak Furniture Land store is a welcome investment in terms of job creation and is a nice addition to the choice of shops for Kettering residents.

“I was delighted to open the showroom and I wish them every success for the future.”

The amazing cake sculpture was designed by multi award-winning East Midlands based cake artist Caz Clarke of Persnickety Cakes.
