GCSEs: Southfield School, Kettering

Pupils at Southfield School are celebrating an improved set of GCSE results today.

They racked up an impressive set of grades and demonstrated progress significantly above national averages in core subjects including English and Maths where more than 75 per cent of students achieved grades A* to C. This represents a 12 per cent increase on performance in 2015.

Taken together with the fact that 90 per cent of students made at least three levels of progress in maths - with an impressive 55 per cent making four levels or more - this means that Southfield remains amongst the highest achieving schools in the country.

Headteacher Julie Goswell said: “With 85 per cent of students gaining A*to C grades in two or more sciences, it is testament to the hard work our girls have put in and to the ways in which Southfield champions science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects.

“Southfield has also maintained an impressive record in terms of the government’s EBacc measure with 41 per cent of students achieving A*-C grades in English, maths, science, languages and humanities.”

Stand-out successes include Katy Barton who gained eight A*s, Natasha Barker-Smith who bagged six A*s and four As, Indeep Kaur who gained seven A*, three As and Deniz de Barros who gained an A in A-level French as well as ten A*/A grades at GCSE.

Mrs Goswell added: “I am really proud of our girls and just wanted to say congratulations to all of our students who are celebrating the results of all their hard work today.”
