Fundraising page set up to help family of Rushden-based special constable who died in bike accident

Amanda Wood was riding her bike from Portugal to Spain on Monday when she crashed and passed away, with Northamptonshire Police flying their flag at half-mast in tribute.

PC Dave Lee, from the force’s Safer Roads Team, has now set up a page to raise money for SC Wood’s family.

On the page, he says: “Special Constable 3758 Amanda Wood was a Northamptonshire based officer who worked out of Rushden Police Station.

“Amanda was happily married and has a son. She started working for Northamptonshire Police in May of 2015 and in that time she had dedicated over 460 voluntary hours.

“Amanda was passionate about motorbikes. Anything she could get involved in with the police and motorbikes made her day.

“On July 18 Amanda was on a motorbiking holiday riding several miles around Europe when she was riding her motorcycle back from an event in Faro, Portugal, when she was involved in an accident close to the town of Caspe in North Eastern Spain.

“Amanda was active on Twitter, using her police force twitter account, promoting what she got up to whilst specialing and also personally.

“She added that personal touch to her twitter account showing that people who work within the police are only human.

“When the news came out of her death, Northamptonshire Police has been overwhelmed with the messages of condolence and support for Amanda.

“There are going to be difficult times ahead for Amanda’s family and we don’t want one of those to be financial.

“This page has been set up in memory of Amanda and for those wishing to make a donation to support Amanda’s family.

“Amanda’s family will decide how the funds will be spent.

“The entire police family is in mourning at her death, and this memorial fund enables people to donate in Amanda’s memory.”
