Passing police officers arrived to find shoppers nearby were already helping the lady, with one woman using her shopping bag with clothes inside as a pillow while tending to her injuries.

One of the shoppers called an ambulance and another then followed the lady to hospital, as she was confused and disorientated, until her daughter could arrive.

PC Jonathan Davis-Lyons, who was one of the responding officers, said: “We were driving past on patrol, when we noticed this was happening. When we got to the woman, four or five members of the public were already assisting her.

“We were really impressed with how well the shoppers got stuck in and helped keep her comfortable and reassured. I’d just like to pass on my thanks to them and say well-done for being so helpful, and for the compassion they showed when dealing with this injured lady.”
