Adjacent properties were evacuated while crews tackle the blaze on the upper floor.

A Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue spokesman said: "Five appliances from Mereway, The Mounts, Moulton, Earls Barton and Wellingborough all attended the scene and found the blaze had already broken through the roof of the property.

"The fire was successfully contained to the upper floor of the property as crews used two main jets, four hose reel jets, four breathing apparatus, thermal imaging cameras and a 13½-metre ladder to help extinguish the flames.

"No one was in the building during the incident and nobody was injured. The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained."
