At about 11.50am, he was following the progress of one plane when he saw it spiralling out of the sky.

He said: "I just happened to be watching this one particular plane when it started to spiral towards the ground.

"It went straight down and then disappeared. It went down into a field.

"It was horrific. I hope and pray that the pilot is alright.

"A lot of people didn't even notice it. It was only by chance that I saw it."

The plane was one of six that were above the airfield at the time.

Mr Dobbs added: "The fire engines were there within about ten minutes and the air ambulance landed at about the same time. They were very quick."

Chris Reece, from Klever Kitchens based in nearby Sywell Grange, had been watching planes flying at the airfield just before the incident.
