It's hoped a Kettering lake will soon re-open after it was closed because of a rat infestation.

The Kettering Leisure Village lake, off Thurston Drive, is currently closed off with signs warning of a public health issue.

Those living nearby had complained to Kettering Council because of rats in the area.

Now the lake is closed as pest control workers try and bring the problem under control, with food left for ducks being eaten by the rats.

A council spokesman said: "I can confirm that the Kettering Council warden team are undertaking pest control treatment in the area as a result of complaints from local residents.

"The signage and fencing was intended to not only deter people from accessing the bait boxes, but also to reduce the amount of available food left for ducks during the treatment, which was being eaten by the rats.

"It is intended that amended/clarified signage will be installed soonest."

The spokesman said that it was difficult to give precise timings on when the lake will re-open as it depends on how extensive the problem is and then how long their work will take.

But they added it was hoped to be "no more than a couple of weeks".
