Drivers are being warned to avoid the A45 in Northampton after a three-vehicle pile-up on Friday afternoon.

Police, fire crews and East Midlands Ambulance Service are all at the scene, on the westbound carriageway near Riverside, following the smash involving and Audi and a Nissan Micra and a van just before 2pm.

One woman is being treated by paramedics but police say her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman tweeted: "Motorists are being urged to avoid the A45 westbound in Northampton near Riverside.

"Fire crews are currently attending a road traffic collision at the scene, with queues already tailing back up to two miles.

"Please find alternative routes if you are able to."
