Investigation launched as man dies one day after leaving HMP Five Wells
A former prisoner was found dead one day after leaving a Wellingborough prison.
Nicholas Lowe, 44, was a prisoner at HMP Five Wells until his released late last year.
Now it has emerged that Mr Lowe died just one day after his release, on October 16.
The news has only just come to light after the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman announced it was to launch an investigation into the death.

The watchdog investigates all deaths in custody and those that occur within 14 days of release from prison, because those deaths are often intrinsically linked to the end of a period in jail.
Five Wells is privately run by G4S.
An HMP Five Wells spokesperson:
“A former prisoner Mr Nicholas Lowe died in the community on 16 October 2025, one day after his release from HMP Five Wells. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
“All deaths in custody, and those that occur within 14 days of release, are investigated by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman. The cause of death will be for the coroner to determine.”
Mr Lowe’s death is the seventh connected to the prison, including the death of Jason McDonagh in 2023, who starved to death in Wellingborough, three days after his release.
