Developer helps out with forest school idea

St Edward’s Catholic Primary School is in the early stages of setting up a Forest School, which will offer an innovative educational approach to outdoor play and learning.

To help get the project up and running, developer Redrow has donated logs and stumps to be used as seating, plus branches that can be used to build dens.

Head teacher Pauline Cuddihy said: “Forest Schools are a relatively new concept of outdoor learning and something we’re keen to offer.

“We’re grateful to Redrow for donating and delivering our ‘forest’ and are looking forward to it becoming more established in the months ahead.

“The Forest School will encourage children to work together as a team, help develop speech and language, relieve the pressure of classroom learning, help children to fall in love with nature, increase levels of physical activity and build confidence, but most importantly it will be fun.”

Tonia Tyler, sales director for Redrow Homes (South Midlands), says: “It’s great to see schools looking for new ways of encouraging children’s learning and development. The Forest School project looks like fun and we’re glad to see surplus wood from one of our development sites being put to good use.”
