Would-be robber tries to stab man on Kettering playing fields
A shocking incident
A Kettering knifeman waved a weapon around after demanding a man hand over his phone - before trying to stab his victim in the leg.
The shocking incident took place yesterday (Sunday) on the playing fields off Weekley Glebe Road and detectives are now urgently appealing for information.
The victim, a man in his 20s, was approached by another man between 6.30pm and 6.45pm as he walked across the playing fields behind Kettering Buccleuch Academy.
The would-be robber demanded the man handed over his phone and assaulted him when his victim refused.
Police said the victim fought back only for the attacker to pull out a knife and start waving it around, before slashing the man’s coat.
A police spokesman said: "He then attempted to stab the man in his leg, but he managed to deflect the blow and the offender ran off towards Brambleside.
"Officers believe the offender left the area in a van, which was parked nearby.
"The offender was a man aged 25 to 28-years-old, between 6ft and 6ft 2in tall, and was wearing a full face covering, a thick hooded coat and black Nike gloves with the tick logo.
