A 35-year-old woman will be sentenced by a Crown Court judge after two people were taken to hospital after a police chase ended with a car smashing into a tree near Northampton just before 3am.

Both occupants of the Toyota Rav4 had to be freed by firefighters using cutting gear and were taken to the major trauma unit at University Hospital Coventry.

The pair — the woman and a 52-year-old man — were later discharged and arrested.

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "The car failed to stop for officers in Holcot Lane, Brixworth, at around 2.45am on Tuesday (December 15).

"After a short pursuit, the vehicle was in collision with a tree on Harborough Road, Brixworth."

Lisa Marie Kelly, of no fixed abode, appeared at Wellingborough Magistrates' Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to failing to stop, driving while disqualified, dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance.
