A brave woman challenged a burglar who she found in her living room in Corby before taking back the handbag he tried to steal.

Police are appealing for information after the incident in Wensleydale Park, which took place just before 3pm on Monday (September 28).

The man had entered the house through an open door and attempted to take a handbag from the living room.

But he was spotted by the householder and told her he was there to "check out the roof" when she challenged him.

And when he then tried to leave the property she grabbed the handbag off him before he fled.

A police spokesman said: "The man is described as white, aged in his 40s, between 5ft 5in and 5ft 10in, with a slim build, greyish hair and a pale complexion.

"He was wearing a dark green puffa-style jacket, dark trousers and a black face mask."

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Northamptonshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 20000510674.
