Northamptonshire Police has hit back at criticism from some members of the public over their recent crackdown on cannabis farms.

The move comes after another raid in Northampton yesterday, Thursday, in which 458 plants were discovered. It follows a series of raids in which plants worth hundreds of thousands of pounds have been recovered.

In a statement issued on Friday, a spokesperson for the Force said they wanted to explain why they won't let this issue go.

"A lot of people think that cannabis factories are a victimless crime, but they aren’t, and people need to understand this fact! The people in charge of cannabis factories often use vulnerable people to operate them.

"Will Northamptonshire Police ever accept modern slavery? Will it let any instance of modern slavery slide?

"Cannabis factories also really blight an area and we want people to enjoy living in this county. No one should feel miserable about where they live, right? Having a factory of this nature in your local area really brings down a neighbourhood. They'll make these people take all of the risks - they'll pay them poorly, and make them do all the dirty work while they sit there counting the cash they've made through modern slavery.

"This is why when one is set up, we receive loads of community intelligence asking us to take action. Without a doubt, THE best weapon a police force has, hands down, is its community, and we're lucky that ours are really engaged and ready to help us

"So there you have it. We hope that explains things," the statement concluded.
