Wellingborough man jailed for smuggling ‘large quantity’ of drugs into UK
A Wellingborough man has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for smuggling cannabis into the UK from the USA.
Sam Medlin, 37, previously of Burns Road, Wellingborough, was arrested at Stansted Airport on November 17, 2025, and later charged with importation of cannabis in early 2026.
At Northampton Crown Court on June 1, after pleading guilty to the offence in April, he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.
Lead investigator DC James Roe, from the police’s Serious and Organised Crime Team, said: “Tackling drug harm is a priority for Northamptonshire Police and this sentence sends a clear message that we will relentlessly target those who profit from supplying drugs in our area.

“I hope this result reassures our communities in Northamptonshire and I want to be clear that we will continue to take decisive action to disrupt further harm.”
Last year Northamptonshire Police received intelligence that Medlin was ‘facilitating the importation’ of a large quantity of cannabis into the UK from the USA between January and June 2025.
After making inquiries with Border Force, the police were able to determine that Medlin was responsible for packages seized upon entry into the country in December 2020, March 2022 and October 2023.
