Stunned Police shared a dramatic video of a biker racing along the A45 and an astonishing 120mph.

Officers from the crack Armed Response Vehicle team clocked the motorbike undertaking two vehicles as it sped towards Rushden Lakes from Wellingborough on Tuesday lunchtime.

And they revealed he was going so fast, he didn't even notice the sirens and blue flashing lights behind him.

A spokesman for the ARV team said: "This motorcyclist failed to spot the big, marked ARV directly behind and topped out at 120mph. Even with the emergency lights on, it didn’t see us.

"Our BMW X5s don't exactly blend into the background, proving the rider had no awareness of his surroundings and a complete disregard towards the safety of other roads users.

"A day in court will follow."

Northamptonshire Police launched a three-month safety campaign Operation Journey earlier this month.

And Tuesday's latest batch of vehicle checks uncovered a stack of offences.

PC Dave Lee, from the Force's Safer Roads Team, said: "A total of 28 vehicles pulled into the checksite we had up and running today in Northampton.

"Some headline stats included 11 illegal tyres, two drivers had no licence and two no insurance, one vehicle was in a dangerous condition and two had expired MOTs. Two drivers were also reported for seatbelt offences."

Two vans were seized — one driver did not have a valid licence and another no insurance.

PC Lee added: "The driver was not named on the insurance as it was the policy holder only — the policy holder was in the passenger seat, however, so the driver was reported for no insurance and policy holder reported for permitting the offence!"

Speeding and not wearing a seatbelt are two of the "fatal four" offences — alongside using a mobile phone behind the wheel and drink-driving — which are being targeted by Operation Journey.
