A vehicle was deliberately set on fire just minutes after it careered into a pub in Rothwell last night (Tuesday).

Police have launched an investigation after the incident which took place between 9pm and 9.30pm, with a black Nissan Navara crashing into the side of the Rowell Charter Inn in Sun Hill.

The driver and passengers got out of the vehicle but just after the driver then got back in the vehicle and drove off towards the war memorial, followed by two of the passengers on foot.

The vehicle was then deliberately set on fire and the driver and passengers ran off towards the town centre.

A police spokesman said the initial crash caused "extensive damage to the external brickwork and damage to an internal boiler".

The spokesman said: "Officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the road collision or the suspect arson.
