Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses after a man appeared to reach out towards a child in Northampton yesterday.

Officers revealed a 24-year-old woman was walking in the alleyway next to Pendle Road, towards Cotswold Avenue in Duston, with a group of children at around midday on Monday and issued descriptions of two men believed to be in their 40s who they want to speak to.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police said: "One of two men who were also walking in the area appeared to reach out towards one of the children but the other man pulled him back.

"The first man was about 40, slim and approximately 5ft 5in tall, with short black hair, bad teeth and wearing ripped tanned clothing. The other man was also about 40, slim, with short grey hair, about 5ft 5in and wearing similar clothing.

"If anyone knows who these men are, or witnessed the incident on Monday lunchtime, please call us on 101 using reference number 20000440766. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
