In both incidents, nobody was injured however Northamptonshire Police say a number of people have been safeguarded and they have 'stepped up' patrols in the area.

A 35-year-old man was arrested but was later released so police are now appealing for information.

Det Insp Johnny Campbell, of Northamptonshire Police’s Crime team, said: “These were two extremely serious incidents in which firearms have been discharged in and around addresses on these two estates.

"Thankfully, nobody was hurt but the fact remains we have lethal firearms at large and people prepared to use them.

"A large team of detectives is working to track down the offenders and we are actively following up a number of lines of inquiry and looking at potential suspects.
