Transit driver sentenced over serious smash on A43

A man has been sentenced over a serious smash at an accident blackspot on the A43
Ford Transit driver Benjamin Sinsalco was behind the wheel of his van during the crash at the A43 / Kirby Lane junction close to Deene, north of Corby, on July 25, 2024.
A motorcyclist in his 20s was taken to hospital following the three-vehicle smash during the morning rush-hour.
The 33-year-old of Hawthorn Way, Birmingham, was before Recorder Robert Moretto at Northampton Crown Court yesterday (Tuesday, August 11) to be sentenced after he pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and assault. He had denied causing serious injury by careless driving and the court accepted his plea to the lesser offence.
He was fined £900 and his driving licence was endorsed with six penalty points. He was also given a year-long community order and will have to complete 50 hours of unpaid work. Sinsalco was also ordered to pay court costs of £1,000 and a £114 surcharge.
The stretch of the A43 between Corby and Easton-on-the-Hill is classified as a red route and is the county’s 15th most dangerous stretch of road, with ten people seriously injured and six killed between 2022 and 2024, the latest period for which audited figures are available.
