The 15-year-old from Chad in central Africa was discovered at about 5.30pm after falling from underneath the HGV on the A43 Northern Bypass, which was travelling towards the hamburger roundabout.

A police spokesman said: "He was soaked from rain water so we gave him clean dry clothes, food and drinks to warm up."

On social media the Kettering Proactive Cops team said: "We have a young man from Chad in our care, freezing cold and terrified.

"You wouldn't believe how well he has accepted a warm cup of soup, Mars bar and bag of crisps. Very sad."

It's not known how long the boy had spent underneath the lorry.

The police spokesman added that he was left in the care of the local authority.
