Another said: "I've been having those for a three weeks now. I've had five calls today all from different parts of the country. Before that I got the tax fraud one."

A Northamptonshire Police spokesman said: "These individuals are very skilled in these type of calls and the number that is used is presented as the Northamptonshire Police number 03000 111 222.

"Northamptonshire Police will never make these types of calls and will never ask for any bank details or payments over the phone.

"We are asking members of the public to be vigilant if they receive any type of call from individuals stating they are police officers and asking for any type of personal and banking information."
