Staff member threatened with a knife at Wellingborough supermarket

Police are appealing for witnesses after a member of staff at a supermarket was threatened with a knife in Wellingborough.

The incident happened at Lidl in London Road in the town on Monday (September 7) between 8.35pm and 8.45pm, when a suspected shoplifter left the store with two rucksacks of stolen goods.

A spokesman for Northants Police said: "The security alarm activated and as a member of staff chased the shoplifter out of the store, he then produced a knife, pointing it at the staff member and causing him to fear for his safety.

"The suspect then walked off along London Road in the direction of the town centre."

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-30s, about 5ft 10in, of a medium build with blond shoulder-length dreadlocks.

He was wearing a bright yellow and white padded jacket, dark jeans and dark-coloured trainers.

He spoke with a foreign accent. He was also carrying two blue rucksacks.
