The motorist's Volkswagen Golf was snapped by a speed camera stationed on Wellingborough Road, Northampton on Saturday.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police's Safer Road Teams said: "The driver was initially caught doing 37mph approaching the van — then, and hour and 45 minutes later, they came back and were caught at 45mph.

"The speed limit along that stretch of road is 30mph.

"We're not sure if it's complete disregard for the speed limit or just lack of attention because we are pretty easy to see."

Northamptonshire Police launched Operation Journey earlier this month, a three-month road safety crackdown targeting the "fatal four" offences — speeding, drink/drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt and using a mobile phone at the wheel — in response to a rise in numbers of those killed and seriously injured on the county roads.

The 'fatal four' are the motoring offences which are most commonly linked to death or serious injury on the roads.
