"In early to see the last of nights going home and days starting. I’ve had to write to 4 officers this morning who have been assaulted, spat at and urine thrown at them. Absolute disgrace #dutysupt #protecttheprotectors," he said.

Following up later, he said: "I tweeted this morning about my colleagues being assaulted. After a really long day and some great work by the officers dealing 6 charges of assault emergency service worker have been secured. (5 x assault police and 1 x assault paramedic). #team #police #protecttheprotectors"

Before adding, "Thank you to all the teams across the County. Incredibly proud of your commitment."

Chief Superintendent Hillery also said the beautiful weather had resulted in another busy day of calls, with most about breaches of guidelines around Covid-19.

"Another lovely day! Yesterday we hit 950 incidents, a second day of high incident levels. Again a significant proportion are reports of #Covid19 breaches. The #lockdown hasn’t changed please think about what you are doing and the potential consequences #StayHomeSavesLives," he said.
